In week 9, we learned about the process of garment construction. We learned that there are multiple steps and requirements before a designer starts to design a garment.
Garment Construction
Construction is the action of building something and garment construction is a process of turning a 2D design or pattern into a 3D garment and fit into the body. There comes some common issues which are technical issues and design issues when in the process of garment construction.
A design pattern is important as it is the base, tools are needed in the process as well. The designer then works on the garment according to size to fit the desired individual, measurements are required during this process. Next is pattern grading, it is a scaling process to achieve different sizes of garments, it can be done manually or digitally. A pattern block is needed when cutting the fabric. The designer then tries out garment sampling where similar fabric is used to replicate the final piece to test if it fits a model, it can also be used as a future reference for designers. Finally, the designer fits the finished garment onto the model which fits the client's body shape to make sure that it is the proper fit before finalising the garment.
